Hammer Of Hathor - False Treef (stunned records 2009)

Mark E. Kaylor & Heather Vergotis are active members of the burgeoning Portland free music community, having busted their chops around town for years prior to forming the multi-instrumental beast Hammer of Hathor. Some duos in PDX can pull off jazz or punk, and some can pull off scuzz or folk, but HOH venture to ask “why not take it all on?” Their ‘False Teef’ begins at any number of disparate points to launch into super inspired jam mode, as we can testify after 40 such minutes of feedback meditation, string twang trance, surging tape loop, smoked out riffs, and a pair of rattling false teeth perched upon the amplifier. It’s also immediately apparent these partners are synched for optimal 4D pattern-weaving and burnt basement reach-out to the tangential points between the weird and weirder energies. Breathe in a whole new scenery, take on a whole new time — a soundtrack is here to assist the switch." Limited edition of 111 pro-dubbed & imprinted c40 tapes with double-sided color jcard and insert. stunned records

Eurocheque - Die Runde Sache (LP 2005)

A wickedly fun minimal synth gem that hits a lot of my personal robot pop g-spots and thats thankfully been retrieved from tape culture oblivion by the fine folks at Kernkrach and sent out into the world in a swank sandpaper jacket. Super stripped and Man Machine robotic at times, childrens show theme giddy in its melodicism at others, the sound here is probably most comparable to the archival Guyer's Connection LP also issued by this imprint. Proactively plastic, wafer thin, neon bright and totally irresistible. Mutant Sounds

David Grubbs - Hybrid Songs Box.4 (2009)

David Grubbs (guitarist, pianist, and vocalist) was a founding member of Squirrel Bait, Bastro, and Gastr del Sol. He has also played in The Red Krayola and The Wingdale Community Singers.

David Grubbs’ last piece "Hybrid Song Box.4" began as the accompaniment to installation artist
Angela Bulloch’s 2008 eponymous artwork, which was part of the Guggenheim’sTheanyspacewhatever exhibit last year.

But don't be afraid: David Grubbs's 26-minute soundtrack picks up sonically where "An Optimist Notes the Dusk" left off. Grubbs brings his thick, solid-body electric guitar tone to the most relaxed of tempos, the most spacious of handlings.
Limited to 1000.

The Goner - Behold A New Traveler (deep water acres 2010)

Behold A New Traveler is the second Deep Water entry from Sweden’s The Goner and it marks a confident move forward on all fronts. In contrast to earlier work, most of the new Goner material is song-based and full-band powered, making for an album that’s both thematically unified and stylistically varied, from solo acoustic melancholy to wailing psych-rock. While it is still possible to draw lines from Behold… to the music of other contemporary folk-derived artists such as Six Organs of Admittance, Palace Brothers, and Stone Breath, at the same time the overall feel owes as much to Westerlund’s own cultural roots and the Goner’s creative voice continues to develop with a clarity of purpose that offers much and suggests more. *deep water acres

Pocahaunted - Make It Real (not not fun 2010)

After a six-month hiatus, a complete line-up overhaul, and a full year-plus of only playing shows and writing songs and amassing totemic objects, finally Pocahaunted return to the recorded realm with their first album since 2008. Time flies when yr having not not fun and all that. Make It Real collects seven of the band’s 2009 live staples for a 40-minute-ish collage of basement body music, garage dub damage, outsider funkadelic sprawl, voodoo rhythm workouts, duo femme soul vocal dynamics, dripping gold sweat, and dream fulfillment. Recorded barefoot and shirtless and direct to tape at Green Machine Studio in summer ’09 by M. Geddes Gengras and featuring guest bamboo sax by jazzmaster Alex Gray(of Dreamcolour/Deep Magic) and mastered by James Plotkin. Black vinyl LPs in jackets with warped LA post-Parliament utopia artwork by vision wizard Spencer Longo not not fun

Sylvester Anfang II ~ Commune Cassetten (blackest rainbow 2010)

A new slab of tranced out psychotic psychedelia from the occult loving Belgium based clan. This new incarnation being Sylvester Anfang II reached a new level of awesomeness last year with the incredible double LP on Aurora Borealis, on Commume Cassetten they continue their bizarre trip into the darker, but somehow super psychedelic, realm of the occult obsessed mind. There's a real fucked up krautrock boogie vibe throughout but retaining some of the doomed funeral folk qualities of the original Anfang guise, as well as some loose as hell, total stoned out ritualistic baked grooves... blackest rainbow

Cursillistas & Love Cult - Split (blackest rainbow 2010)

Edition of 100 copies cassette from Cursillistas & Love Cult, a ritualistic acid/folk outfit that conjure the kind of cultic confusion of galactic explorers like Siloah, Dom and Ghost using bowed strings, drones, smeared vocals and acoustic instruments. First up is Cursillistas' epic 23 minute 'Great Salt Desert', a superb weirded out blues drenched, desert dried, psychedelic mirage... The b side opens with Love Cult's 'Breadcrumb Pony Tail', a swirling blissful distortion dripping psyche dream, a really beautiful 11 minute wonder. This is followed by 'Somn' a more crushing electrifying piece with tinkering and rattling from unrecognizable objects, distorted feedback blurts and what sounds like then objects trying to communicate. Limited to 100 copies with parchment paper (either gold or ivory) cover with black and white print. blackest rainbow
